I am writing this letter to you as a disappointed reader of The Daily Item. My family has been a subscriber to your paper for as long as I can remember and I have been an avid reader since I was 15. I am a senior at Midd-West High School.
Over my four years here, it seems as if The Daily Item is extremely quick to make a front page article out of every negative thing that occurs at Midd-West. I feel that you tend to miss a lot of positive things that take place at Midd-West or you just don't make as big of a deal out of them. This is very disappointing because we are not the student body that you give us the reputation for being. We are very hardworking students with a top of the line school and we are doing our best to make our learning environment better.
Over the past couple of years there have been a few incidents that have given us the reputation of being bullies. Believe it or not, there are not hundreds of bullies walking through our halls. Yes, there are some, but every school has bullies. I do not think it is fair to give the reputation of being a bully to an entire student body because of a few students.
Our administration and student body are doing their best to stop any bullying that takes place. Students and teachers report when they see bullying occurring and they take it very seriously. On a more positive note, we do a lot of great things here at Midd-West. However, people would not know that because you only like to make a big deal out of the negative events that take place. I would strongly encourage you to visit Midd-West and get an inside look at the positive things we are doing.
