Good things get overshadowed

Daily Item

---- — I am a senior at Midd-West High School. I am writing to you in disgust regarding the negative articles and headlines about Midd-West. Over the past four years, our community, parents, teachers, my fellow classmates and I have read nothing on your front page but negative things that put a bad image on our school. We realize these past few years have been rough not only for our school, but others as well. Bullying, bomb threats and other such situations have taken over the paper. Papers and rumors have spread to make our school look terrible.

What I am trying to get across is that our school is more than that. We have accomplished some amazing things as teachers, teams, and as individual students. For instance, we had two soccer teams and a field hockey team this past fall that advanced to districts. The teams were barely mentioned in the paper for something they worked so hard to accomplish.

Also, we have had some amazing theatrical and music performances by our students. Not only have our students been left out, but our staff has failed to make headlines as well. We had a nurse that was named Nurse of the Year, yet was not recognized nearly enough for all she does for our school. It's a shame for these students and teachers who work so hard and accomplish great goals and not be mentioned to their community, but instead are overshadowed by a few students who make poor choices. I hope in the future our school and community is mentioned for positive accomplishments rather than the negative.
