Church and state

Daily Item

---- — In regards to the letter from David Morgan in the Dec. 19 edition, I would like to say the use of the terrible mass murders at the Sandy Hook school in Newtown, Conn., to try to make the point that the separation of church and state in this country is wrong, is not only despicable and totally without respect for those who lost loved ones, but is also rather immature and certainly is not Christlike. It reminds me of the cult that used the funerals of U.S. service personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan to further their foul view that "God" was punishing this nation for moderating its views on homosexuality. One of the reasons we abhor the Taliban is that they, too, "know" the will of God and they are willing to impose that view on others by intimidation, beatings, beheadings and assassinations of the young and the helpless. They believe that religion and government should be one!
