Teens need to know

Daily Item

---- — In our area there have been a lot of teenagers becoming pregnant. I know of a few girls who go to Selinsgrove High School who have kids. Teenhelp.com says that each year, about 820,000 teenagers in the U.S. become pregnant. This means that 34 percent of teens become pregnant before age 20.

With shows such as "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom" now being shown on TV, teenagers think of pregnancy as a way to get noticed.

Pregnancy isn't the only possible consequence of being sexually active. Other possible outcomes of sexual activity are Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). These diseases could be life changing and teenagers need to know how serious they are.

There needs to be more help out there for teenagers who have questions about sex. They need to know that having a kid is a big responsibility. Teens need to see that they are still kids themselves and children need to be raised by responsible adults.
