Any takers this time?

Rep. Lou Barletta’s bill sailed through the House 410-0, and when it reached the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid attached an amendment onto it related to the extended unemployment act, knowing very well it would not pass the Republican House.

This has to stop! I have, over the years, talked to senators and congressmen with my suggestions on how to stop this, but no one has the guts to introduce my idea for a bill that would put an end to what has happened here.

That being any bill introduced and numbered must relate to its particular subject in its entirety. There can be no attachments, amendments whatsoever! Any such attachments or amendments, not related to the original bill must be deleted and reintroduced with its own House Bill number, making it a complete bill of its own.

How many times have we heard or read where a bill was passed and later tacked onto that same House Number Bill was a bridge to nowhere, or $500,000 to study the sex life of a frog, or as in this case, the extended unemployment package? Our selected members of the Senate and House have been quoted, “I didn’t know that was part of that bill I voted on.”

Well, this idea will stop that pork barrelling done by all our elected officials tacking attachments onto submitted new bills. I think this is long overdue and I’d bet the voting American populace would be in favor of this bill being introduced by anyone.

Let’s see who has the guts to propose such legislation. Call your congressmen and senators. Tell them this is the time. Who wants to be the chosen one and be the most popular man on the hill? I’ll bet we’ll have no takers. Whatcha think?
