Distorted prism to view president

There is a faction of people in this country who have never accepted the legitimacy of the Obama presidency. You've seen the missiles fired at him -- he wasn't born in the United States, his name is "un-American," he is an Arab, he is a Muslim, he is a Red Socialist, and even, he eats Dijon mustard on his cheeseburger instead of good, old American ketchup. He is not one of us!

Now, when your perception succumbs to such beliefs, everything that happens surrounding President Obama is viewed through this distorted prism. One must wonder if this is what prompts Tom Charvat's letter to conclude that Obama is not a leader.

There has been a united effort by elected Republicans to oppose everything which Obama proposes, intent on his failure. They deny this, saying they are merely sticking by their principles. This is poppycock and is disproved by just one "for instance": the individual mandate in Obamacare. Are you aware that the concept of an individual mandate was actually originated by Republicans, included in two Republican bills proposed in 1993 and bi-partisan bills in 2007 and 2009, and is also a staple in Romneycare? But, when President Obama included it in his bill, it was not supported by a single Republican and has become a major hammering point against Obamacare. Their own idea! It's on the record.

Mr. Charvat begins his letter with a question concerning presidential responsibility for subordinate officials. He mentions Hillary and Holder who have not been charged, indicted or convicted of anything, so I figure he must not really mean Obama. Instead, he is probably referring to Reagan, the overseer of 138 officials convicted in such schemes as Iran-Contra, HUD grant-rigging scandal, lobbying scandal, various EPA scandals -- must I go on? Yes, the same Ronald Reagan who is now a Republican demigod. Or perhaps he is referring to the 11 officials of the George W. Bush administration convicted of various crimes.

When President Obama wakes in the morning, he must first rise above these shameless, felonious accusations before he can even begin "presidenting." He must then fly in the face of all who would see him fail, even to the detriment of the country, to get anything done. Not a tough leader? I couldn't disagree more.
