Public service not valued

If you live in Northumberland County, the action of the majority commissioners to lower the salaries of future commissioners and most row officers sends a message that is loud and very clear: public service is not valued here, and only those who are well to do should run and serve.

At one time, public servants were held in high regard and were well respected; but, for whatever reasons, their public esteem and support has decayed in recent years, and they are now looked upon as thieves taking from the public purse.

The majority commissioners are making sure their taxes will be hard to increase when they leave office and that only the wealthy should govern.

That's un-American.
