After attending the recent Shikellamy school board work session on June 15, I was appalled at the behavior of one of the directors. This individual displayed a blatant disrespect for the constituents of the district.
First, the director berated another board member with a complete lack of professionalism in a public meeting by screaming and waving a finger at the peer. I'm embarrassed to admit that this individual is a member of the school board of the community in which I live.
This individual also showed a blatant disregard for any form of professional, let alone respectful attire representative of a public official. Wearing sweatpants to a public meeting, regardless of the excuse, correlates with a lack of respect and cognitive ability. As if this wasn't a substantial embarrassment, the same individual displayed a lack of having the skills necessary to serve in this position when discussing the role of foreign language classes in a school's curriculum. Making the comment that foreign language classes should be eliminated and are unnecessary is bad enough considering the admission requirements of institutions of higher learning, but by mentioning that anyone interested in learning a foreign language can do so by buying books or tapes that are advertised on television shows a lack of reality of the importance of the position of school board director to the people of the district.
I'm sorry, but I do not find anything humorous in these misinformed comments. At a time when the current majority of the school directors are attempting to stop a downward spiral left by previous poor decisions of prior leadership, there is no place for this individual at the table. Voters, take notice.
