FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — First Presbyterian Church was the setting for the ceremony uniting Julia Margaret Burns and Captain Reid Epler Furman in marriage. Dr. John W. Coker Jr. performed the service at 6 p.m. May 31.
The bride is the daughter of Julian and Ruth Ann Burns, of Burke, Va. The bridegroom is the son of Joel and Margaret Furman, of Sunbury, Pa.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, Maj. Gen. (retired) Julian H. Burns, chose her sister, Jacqueline R. Burns, as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Christina Ann Bolt, of Greenville, S.C.; Elizabeth McCall Bemiss, of Charlotte; and Anne Margaret Furman, of Carlisle, Pa., sister of the bridegroom.
The bridegroom chose his cousin, Jared Furman Kohl, of Mifflinburg, Pa., as best man. Ushers were Chad Michael Geise, of Philadelphia, cousin of the bridegroom; Nicholas Gene Hoch, of Harrisburg, Pa.; and Capt. Daniel Alexander Edwards, of Fort Bragg. Military saber arch participants were Timothy S. Bowman, Adam W. Emery, Bruce W. Holmes, Joshua F. Lawter, Jeffery J. Batson, Andrew G. Davila, Robert J. Rooney, Charles R. Garland, Chris J. Ostapiej, Eoin P. Oriada, and Sarkis J. Babeau, of Fort Bragg.
A reception was held at The Airborne and Special Operations Museum, Fayetteville. After a wedding trip in Spain, the couple are living in Fayetteville.
The bride is a 1999 graduate of Heidelberg High School, Heidelberg, Germany, and a 2003 graduate of Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C., with a bachelor of arts degree. She is an ILT in the United States Army, currently the commanding officer of the 11th Quartermaster Company, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg.
The bridegroom is a 1996 graduate of Line Mountain High School, Herndon, Pa., and a 2000 graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., with a bachelor of science degree. He is assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg.
