DANVILLE — Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shaffer, of Bradenton, Fla. and formerly of Danville, Pa., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary recently.
They were married on Sept. 7, 1952, by Henry Hopkins, pastor of St. Peter’s Methodist Church, Riverside, Pa.
Mrs. Shaffer, the former Bertha Bickhart, is the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Bickhart. She worked as a cashier/secretary for Follmer Trucking Company, in Danville, and Highway Express Lines, Northumberland, Pa. She enjoys bingo, board games, television, cooking, and shuffleboard.
Her husband is the son of the late Allen and Mildred Shaffer. He was a member of the Navy during the Korean Conflict and was assigned for active duty aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Cabot. After serving in the Navy, he was self-employed in trucking and timber. He enjoys shuffleboard, fishing, crafts, bring a handyman, board games and was a 4-H leader during his farming year.
They are the parents of four children, Keith and Tracy Shaffer and Kathleen and Joseph Klodnicki, all of Danville, Kenneth and Barbara Shaffer, of Clayton, N.Y., and Karen Force, of Mililani, Oahu, Hawaii. There are also 10 grandchildren, Stacey Force Marino, Melissa Force, Kimberly Force, Kyle Shaffer, Julie Shaffer, Megan Harter, Laura Klodnicki, Kurtis Klodnicki, Shane Shaffer, and Kristiane Shaffer; and two great-grandchildren, Aleigha Marino and Louis Marino.
