SOFTBALL
MIFFLINTOWN -- In an early-season matchup between two of the favorites in the Tri-Valley League, Krysten Ligon and Kami Leach put on a pitching showcase, ultimately decided by Ligon's own two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning, as Upper Dauphin topped Juniata 3-1.
For the day, Ligon threw a complete game two-hitter, striking out 12, allowing one run, with no walks, for the Trojans. Leach scattered four hits and fanned 10 for the Indians, giving up three runs and one walk.
Sarah Dietrich and Emaile Stroup combined for three hits for Upper Dauphin, and Dietrich also scored a run.
Amanda Sheaffer singled and scored the lone run for Juniata.
Greenwood 12, Millersburg 1
MILLERSBURG--Greenwood opened the season with a win against Millersburg behind Kaylee Keener's 3-for-4 six-RBI day. Keener had 2 doubles in her monster day.
Jessie Schoonover crossed the dish twice to help the Wildcats and hit a double. Jackie Smith was the lone standout for the Indians with a double.
Halifax 5, Midd-West 0
HALIFAX -- Kassie Boyer pitched the shut-out for the Wildcats, allowing four hits with seven strikeouts, and also hit a double and drove in two runs at the plate. Myranda Cox had two hits, as did Kayla Korab, and the duo combined for three RBIs for Halifax.
For the Mustangs, Chelsea Snook threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Amanda Walter.
East Juniata 12, Newport 6
NEWPORT -- Allison and Carly Inch combined for five hits, four runs and batted in four to lead the Tigers to the TVL victory. Carly Inch also had a triple and teammate Taty Chubb (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) picked up the win on the mound.
Emily Livingston had two hits and Jess Keys hit a double and scored a run to lead Newport.
BASEBALL
Midd-West 5, Halifax 2
MIDDLEBURG -- Cody Cutler allowed only three hits, no walks and fanned 10 batters to pick up the Tri-Valley League win for the Mustangs.
James McCloskey and Oliver Stem each doubled, and Stem also had two RBIs to lead Midd-West.
Newport 3, East Juniata 1
NEWPORT -- Zack Miller pitched a complete-game six-hitter, striking out five, and allowed one walk to lead the Buffaloes to the victory. Matt Soccio knocked in one run on two hits, including a double, and teammate Dylan Stoy cranked a double with two RBIs for Newport.
Wes Chubb had three hits and one RBI to lead East Juniata.
Juniata 7, Upper Dauphin 5
ELIZABETHVILLE -- Travis Berrier smashed a two-run home run and teammate Nathan Pray drove in three runs to lead the Indians to the TVL victory.
Zach Markel hit a solo home run for the Trojans, and Jeremy Weaver knocked in a run on two hits in defeat.
