Bloomsburg rallies for win over Kutztown

KUTZTOWN — Bloomsburg came from behind to defeat Kutztown 3-1 in game eight of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Softball Regional onThursday afternoon.

The Huskies (50-9) advance to today’s winners’ bracket final against Lock Haven, at 2 p.m. Kutztown (46-13) falls to the losers’ bracket, where it will face West Chester at 11:30 a.m. today.

Danville’s Ashley Lynn (25-3) scattered five hits and allowed one run, while striking out seven for the victory. Danielle Lazorka and Casey Massimini had two hits each for the Huskies, while Tara Reed and Lori Neyhard had RBIs.

Kutztown took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Ashley Fitzgerald’s solo home run, a towering drive to deep right field. It was her 16th homer on the season.

Golden Bear hurler Katlin Arbogast tossed four shutout innings, but pinch hitter Nikki Shiko, a Southern Columbia graduate, tripled to lead off the fifth. Mary Hoch relieved Arbogast, but after a groundout, Shiko scored on a wild pitch to tie the score. Lazorka singled, advanced on another wild pitch and scored on Reed’s run-scoring single for the lead.

BU added an insurance run off reliever Monica Glomb in the seventh when Lacy Mauro scored on Neyhard’s bases-loaded single.
