DANVILLE -- Cherokee won a pair of games last week to improve to 7-1 and stay in the hunt for the Danville Major Division Baseball title.
Cherokee used a nine-run third inning and followed it with a six-run fourth to topple Geisinger 15-10. Cherokee scored 15 more runs in a 15-0 victory over Southside thanks to an eight-run second.
In the win over Geisinger, Cherokee scored 15 runs on just six hits, sparked by Michael Patterson's triple. Patterson had two hits to lead the Cherokee offense. Michael Kopalcheck added an RBI single while Logan Maloney, Dalton Lupini and Jonathan Berkey also had hits.
Lupini picked up the win on the mound, striking out four.
Kurtis Mordan led Geisinger with three singles while Sean Cope had a triple and a single. Kodey Smeltzer added a pair of hits as well, including a double.
In the easy win over Southside, Dalton Lupini and Zack Shutter, making his first appearance on the mound, combined on a two-hitter. Lupini picked up the win, striking out four more.
Cherokee scored three times in the first inning and then broke things open with an eight-run second.
Sam Dressler had two extra-base hits, including a triple and double and drove in a run. Lupini had a two-run homer and drove in three while Garrett Krum added a double, single and 3 RBIs.
Koty Lupini also singled, doubled and drove in a pair while Shutter and Patterson also had hits.
Tyler Gregg and Kyle Brady had Southside's only hits.
Metso 7, CATV 6
After CATV tied the game in the top of the sixth, Eric Haney singled home the winning run in the bottom of the inning for Metso (3-4).
CATV (4-3) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first only to have Metso rally with two in the first, third and fifth innings.
Haney picked up the win on the mound for Metso, allowing five hits in five innings of work, striking out five. Ryan Conrad pitched four strong innings for CATV, fanning eight while allowing just three hits.
Haney had three hits, including a pair of doubles while driving in a pair of runs. David Burke and Jered Huntington each had two-run singles. Bryson Cromley scored three times.
Bret Krainak had three hits to lead CATV, including a double. Tyler Blue had a triple and single while Conrad blasted a home run. Nick Treon rapped a triple and Koby Schmidt and Brian Earlston also added base hits.
Metso 11, East End 4
Metso got back to .500, breaking open a tie game with seven runs in the last inning to improve to 4-4.
Mark Mullery earned the victory, fanning nine and allowing just four hits in 4 2/3 innings. He and Bryson Cromley combined on a five-hitter.
Cody Keefer had seven strikeouts in a losing cause for East End.
Eric Haney paced the Metso offense with a pair of extra-base hits. He doubled and tripled and drove in four. Cromley, David Burke and Dustyn Kolenda all had two singles while Mullery also had a hit.
Keefer had two of East End's five hits, including a double. Zack Brent, Joey Strausser and Patrick Mutchler also had hits.
Major Softball
Leighow-Subway 17, Legion 12
Leighow-Subway's bats stayed hot, banging out a dozen hits as Leighow remained unbeaten thanks to a fast start.
Leighow, now 8-0, scored 16 runs in its first three at-bats, only to have Legion rally with 10 runs in the third and fourth innings. Abby Drumheller picked up the win, fanning six in 3 2/3 innings while Amber Walter fanned eight in relief.
Walter also paced Leighow's hot offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Chloe Walters, Maura Brady, Tatum Albertson and Colleen McCullom each had two hits as well. Walters drove in two and scored two more while Brady drove in a pair of runs. McCullom scored three times.
Abbey Culver added an RBI single in the victory while Drumheller scored three times.
Courtney Crylser had two hits and scored twice to lead Legion. Becca Alberti added a hit and a run.
Senior Baseball
Garvey's 5, Moose 4
Michael Ramsey singled home Corey Gallagher with the tying run and Zach Vanderslice then doubled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for Garvey's.
Kyle Mordan and Vanderslice combined for 15 strikeouts for Garvey's and the pair did not walk a batter between them.
Vanderslice was the only Garvey's player with two hits. Ramsey, Adam Creasy, Mordan, Kollin Henrie and Matt McConnell all had hits.
Garvey's 10, Wachovia 1
Thirteen-year-old Michael Ramsey tossed a complete-game no-hitter, leading Garvey's to the easy win.
Zach Vanderslice, Adam Creasy, Kyle Mordan and Robbie Riley each had two hits in the victory while Ramsey and Corey Gallagher added base hits.
Creasy scored three runs.
