SELINSGROVE -- Mother Nature must not like the Selinsgrove Major Division All-Star team.
Just as Selinsgrove's offense began to roll against Lewisburg in the bottom half of the third inning of their District 13 Area II elimination-bracket matchup, the skies opened up and play was suspended.
The game was first halted by lightning shortly before 6:30 p.m., followed by a thunderstorm that shut down the contest more than an hour later.
Selinsgrove and Lewisburg resume play today at 1 p.m., with the hosts holding a 3-0 lead with one out in the home half of the third.
Lewisburg was held to just one hit through the first three innings by Selinsgrove starter Colby Crissinger, who struck out three, walked one and hit a batter in 36 pitches thrown.
Aaron Shaffer then got the offense rolling for Selinsgrove as he started the third inning with a leadoff single to right off Lewisburg starter Joey Gardner. Shaffer moved to third on a fielder's choice and a passed ball, before scoring Selinsgrove's first run on a wild pitch.
That wild pitch helped Kyle Pauling draw a walk, and he moved to second on a passed ball. Colton Brouse followed with a bloop infield single and a stolen base to put runners at second and third and set the stage for Tyler Cook.
With two strikes against him, Cook roped the third pitch he saw to the wall in center field to bring home both Pauling and Brouse.
After Cook's double, Matt Apple and Colin Rice drew walks to reload the bases and make Lewisburg manager Andrew Host consider a pitching change.
However, the rain changed all that.
Rain delays are becoming the bane of Selinsgrove this week -- especially when it's had the lead.
On Sunday, Selinsgrove held a 7-0 lead over Mifflinburg before thunderstorms arrived after the second inning to halt play for an hour and a half.
Once the skies cleared, Mifflinburg rallied to claim a 9-8 victory.
