TURBOTVILLE -- The Lewisburg Little League Junior Division baseball all-stars didn't put their collective best foot forward in the opening round of the District 13 Area II Tournament at the Moser Complex.

Lewisburg committed 11 errors in that game, and when Thursday's elimination bracket contest with Milton started, it looked it was going to be the same old story.

They committed four errors in the second inning and fell behind by two runs. But after that inning, pitcher Robbie Gaines and the defense settled into a groove and the offense struck for five runs in the sixth inning as Lewisburg notched a 6-4, come-from-behind victory over Milton.

"We just came alive and started playing baseball," Lewisburg manager Ken Hall said. "We have 12 guys that we think can play with anyone."

Lewisburg advances to play Juniata County at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Milton took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Neil Hoover was hit by a pitch. Lewisburg then made three consecutive errors, leading to both runs.

Milton pitcher Cody Shaffer looked like he would make the lead stand up. Lewisburg stranded seven runners in five innings against Shaffer, but continually escaped trouble thanks to the strikeout. Before leaving at the 95-pitch count with one out in the sixth, Shaffer finished with 10 strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Gaines pitched great after the second and the Lewisburg defense didn't commit an error the rest of the way. Gaines retired nine in a row at one point and allowed only three hits in the game.

Lewisburg finally got on the board in the sixth inning. Brandon Maze walked, was sacrificed to second and went to third on a wild pitch. Will Sumfest then walked, bringing Shaffer to his 95 pitches.

"We knew (Shaffer) was getting close on his pitch count, so we wanted to be a little more patient," Hall said.

After another walk loaded the bases, Ryan Petrill singled home two runs to tie the game at 2. Addison Klock followed with another two-run single, giving Lewisburg a 4-2 advantage. Caleb Saffell later brought the final run home of the inning with another RBI single.

Milton finally reached Gaines in the sixth inning. With two outs, Jason Carter singled and scored on Brian Reich's double. After Gaines walked Trent Zimmerman, he reached the 95-pitch limit. Patrick Corrigan came on and got the final out of the inning to end the Milton threat.

After Lewisburg made it 6-3 by scoring a run on Milton's lone error in the top of the seventh, Milton cut the lead to 6-4 on a Shaffer sacrifice fly, but Corrigan and Michael Fisher combined to get the final two outs of the game.
