Huskies ranked 25th
BLOOMSBURG — The Bloomsburg University football team is tied for 25th in the American Football Coaches Association Division II preseason coaches’ poll. The Huskies, coming off of a 7-3 season where they finished second in the PSAC Eastern Division, are tied with Virginia Union at No. 25.
Defending national champion Valdosta State is ranked first, while 2006 national champion Grand Valley State is second. Northwest Missouri State, North Alabama, and PSAC West rival California (Pa.) round out the top five. Defending PSAC East champion West Chester is ranked 16th, while PSAC West runner-up Indiana (Pa.) comes in at 21.
The Huskies’ opening opponent for 2008, Ashland (Oh.), is ranked No. 15.

Lewisburg earns award
LEWISBURG — The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association has given Lewisburg High School the District 4 Sportsmanship Award for the 2007-08 school year in a vote by athletic officials from eligible public school districts and private schools in the region.
Lewisburg principal David Himes accepted the award on behalf of the school district. This was the first time Lewisburg had received the honor.
“We are going to celebrate this award with the students. It is their award,” Himes said. “They earned it by their behavior in the stands as spectators and as athletes on the field.”

SU names crew coach
SELINSGROVE — Jim Grose was named Susquehanna University’s new head men’s and women’s crew coach on Monday.
Grose has been an assistant coach for Susquehanna men’s and women’s crew since 2004.
He is a member of USRowing and holds a Level I Coaching Certificate from that organization.
Men’s and women’s crew are club sports teams at Susquehanna.

Warrior Run tabs Butler as coach
The Warrior Run school board has announced Nate Butler as the new high school boys basketball head coach for the 2008-09 season.
The school board voted 9-0 in favor of the hiring. Butler will be paid $4,881, according to the WREA bargaining agreement.
