Boys beat Lewisburg, Shamokin, Southern Columbia

DANVILLE -- The Danville boys cross country team was in top form on Tuesday as the race's first four finishers wore the colors orange and purple to lead the Ironmen to the sweep in the Heartland Athletic Conference interdivisional quad-meet on Tuesday.
Danville (12-1) beat Shamokin, 15-50; Lewisburg, 18-41; and Southern Columbia, 16-47.
Chris Brandt crossed the finish line first for the Ironmen in 17 minutes and five seconds. Following him were Mike Davis in second (17:06), Tylor Barnhart in third (17:41) and Jeff Huss in fourth (17:55).
That was the first group of Danville runners to finish, and they gave the Ironmen a commanding lead in the meet.
The second group of Danville runners to cross the finish line sealed the sweep for the Ironmen.
That second group of runners consisted of Michael Ramsey (9th, 18:29), Matt Billas (10th, 18:30), Nate Kapp (11th, 18:41) and Andrew O'Rourke (12th, 18:52).
Robbie Murcek and Jared Toll led Lewisburg (11-1) by finishing 5th and 6th in 18:07 and 18:15, respectively.
On the girls side, Lewisburg remained undefeated as it dominated the race behind a record-breaking time by Sophia Ziemian.
Ziemian finished the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes and 29 seconds to break Danville's course record once held by Caitlin Cavanaugh, now a standout runner at Bucknell University. The old mark was 18:50.
Lewisburg beat Danville, 22-33; Shamokin, 15-50; and Southern Columbia, 15-50. Danville beat Shamokin, 15-50; and Southern, 15-48.
Kiah Hardcastle was second for Lewisburg (12-0) in 19:15 and Shannon Wright was third in 19:33.
Five of the next six runners that crossed the line were from Danville. Allison Billas led the way for the Ironmen by finishing fourth in 20:24 and Ashley Daniels was fifth in 20:41.
The sixth-place finisher was Lewisburg's Mary Challman, who was sixth in 21:06, but the next three finishers all ran for Danville.
Finishing 7-9 for the Ironmen were Kate Bassett (21:15), Rachel Magliane (21:20) and Kelsey Williams (21:35).
The Green Dragons however occupied the next three spots to seal the match. Marina Ziemian's 10th-place finish in 21:41 gave Lewisburg the sweep.
