With several members of the Class A state runner-up girls soccer team on the roster, Southern Columbia began its season with the first of what could be a plethora of wins in 2013-14.
Mackenzie Clark scored 21 points to lead the Tigers to a 54-48 HAC cross-over victory over Montgomery.
Clark scored 15 of her points in the first half as Southern (1-0) 33-19 lead at the break.
Down the stretch the Tigers were just as deadly. They connected on 6-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Rebecca Lyash added 11 points for Southern, eight of which came in the second quarter. Haley Levan added nine points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.
Corrine Shaffer tallied 24 points for Montgomery.

SUNBURY — It was a back-and-forth affair, but in the end Shikellamy held off Lourdes just enough to come away with a 1-point double-overtime win for their second straight win after starting the year with a loss.
Kelsey Zimmerman led the Braves (2-1) with 16 points, including a team-high four 3-pointers, while Kierra Smith added 14 points.
Lourdes was led by Bailey Trell’s 18 points and a 16-point effort by Rachel Schultz that included six rebounds and three steals.

MANDATA — The Eagles’ defensive pressure, especially in the second and third quarters, shut down the Buffaloes en route for the Tri-Vallley League win.
