Two-time BCS champion Alabama starts the 2013 college football season as the team to beat as the USA Today Coaches Poll was released for the first time on Thursday.
The Crimson Tide, winners of three of the last four BCS titles received 58 of 62 possible first-place to earn the top spot. Ohio State, unbeaten a year ago in Urban Meyer's first season, received three first-place votes and is No. 2.
Texas A&M, which returns Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel, got the other first-place vote and is ranked No. 6 by the coaches in the preseason poll.
Rounding out the top five were Oregon, Stanford and Georgia. Behind Texas A&M, the rest of the top 10 includes No. 7 South Carolina, No. 8 Clemson, No. 9 Loousville and No. 10 Florida.
The SEC, the conference from which the last seven BCS champions has come from, has six teams ranked in the first poll of the year, all of them in the top 13. The Pac-12 and Big Ten each have five with the Big 12 putting four in the rankings.
