High school roundup: Green Dragons win, stay alive for playoff berth

GIRLS BASKETBALL

LEWISBURG -- Some clutch free throws by Haley Stanko and Akilah McFadden in overtime helped give Lewisburg a 52-49 Heartland-II victory over Montoursville on Friday to keep the Green Dragons in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Stanko made a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left to give Lewisburg (8-11, 2-9 HAC-II) a lead.

Montoursville then went down the court for a shot and missed. McFadden was ultimately fouled on the play and she made one of two free throws to clinch the win. Emily Conrad led Lewisburg with 14 points, while McFadden finished with 10 points and Kirsten Blakeslee had 12 rebounds.

MIFFLINBURG -- The one-two punch of Kayla Kline and Julia McArdle-Coe propelled the Wildcats to a dominating HAC-I win. Mifflinburg improves to 14-5 overall, while Midd-West falls to 5-13.

MANDATA -- The Tigers backed up a 27-point first quarter with a 24-point third en route to the Tri-Valley League victory.

Victoria Varner scored a game-high 22 points and Carly Burns added 18 for the Indians. Madison Lagerman had 13 for Line Mountain (7-11 overall).

HALIFAX -- A double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds by Kylee Sorichetti lifted the Wildcats to TVL win. Kylee's sister, Cassidy, added five points and 11 rebounds for Halifax (15-5, 12-2 TVL).

JERSEY SHORE -- Thirteen of Liv Bonshock's game-high 16 points came in the second half of the Indians' HAC-I win. Shamokin improves to 10-9 overall and is within a game of earning a D4 berth..

ALMEDIA -- Abby Fisher and Steph Shamburg scored 13 points apiece in the Defenders ( 15-2, 9-2)HAC-II win.

ALTOONA -- Bethany Severn's nine points and 13 rebounds helped lead the Warriors to the non-league win. Jordan Carr added 11 rebounds for Norry (14-4).

LEBANON -- The Eagles cruised to the non-league win behind 21 points and six assists from Torri Erdman, plus 16 points and five rebounds from Faith Gingrich.

LAKE ARIEL -- The Lions didn't have much problem taking the non-league victory behind Austin Schott's game-high 23 points, plus 10 from Dakota Pickett. Meadowbrook Christian improves to 11-5.

ALTOONA -- The Warriors were out-scored by eight points in the final quarter to fall in the non-league matchup. Nathan York scored 19 points and Troy Harris pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Northumberland Christian (5-12).

LEBANON -- The Eagles (11-7) stayed close in the non-league game until they were out-scored 19-7 in the fourth quarter. Blake Spangler-Jones scored 18 points and Karch Carey pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Sunbury Christian (11-7).
