H.S. roundup: Selinsgrove boys pull away from Central Columbia

SELINSGROVE — Central Columbia had the hot start, but Selinsgrove had a stronger finish as the Seals’ second-half effort resulted in a 57-46 Heartland crossover victory on Wednesday.

Fueled by three 3-pointers from C.J. Hollister, Central (0-3) opened the game with an 18-4 lead.

Selinsgrove (1-0) got back into the game in the second quarter and tied it by the half at 25-all. A 13-5 third quarter broke it open for Selinsgrove.

“Central shot lights-out to start, but we had two really strong quarters to take the lead,” said Selinsgrove coach Ray Moyer.

David Aurand led the Seals with 18 points, and Dylan Hoke added 14 in the win.

Dylan Hine and Kevin Krouse both had 10 points for Central.

Mifflinburg 41, Montoursville 36

MONTOURSVILLE — The Warriors’ late-game comeback fell short against the Wildcats in the HAC crossover matchup.

Jeremy Uscowskas led Mifflinburg (3-0) with 15 points, but Pierce Ranck scored 19 points to help rally Montoursville (0-3) late in the game.

The Warriors outscored the Wildcats 19-12 in the final period to make it close.

“It was a very strong defensive effort on our part. Credit Montoursville — they came back in the fourth with physical play,” said Mifflinburg coach Andre’ Roupp.

Bloomsburg 74, Shamokin 54

BLOOMSBURG — The Panthers blew open a close game by outscoring the Indians 42-26 in the second half en route to the HAC crossover win.

Zach Mrozek led all scorers with 25 points for Bloomsburg (2-2).

Dan Delbaugh tallied 15 points, while Austin Stine and Kevin Carsto added 14 points apiece for Shamokin (1-2).

Line Mountain 62, Midd-West 50

MIDDLEBURG — A combined 43 points from Bill Breinich and Cole Rickert propelled the Eagles to the nonleague victory.

Rickert, who scored 21 points in the game, also had 16 rebounds, four steals and four assists for Line Mountain.

Dustin Folk had 13 points to lead Midd-West.


Selinsgrove 47, Williamsport 42 (2 OT)

SELINSGROVE — Laura Long scored a game-high 20 points and Selinsgrove prevailed in the second overtime.

The Seals rallied from an 8-2 deficit after the first quarter by scoring 26 second-half points.

“We played real good help defense in the second half,” said Seals first-year coach Tim Lauver.

Jess Kerstetter had nine points, and Mackenzie Herman added eight for Selinsgrove (2-2).

Shikellamy 60, Line Mountain 29

SUNBURY — Behind Alexis Angstadt’s game-high 22 points, the Braves crushed the Eagles in the nonleague contest.

Kiera Smith added 15 points for Shikellamy (2-0), and Cory Yerger chipped in 11 in the win.

Jade London scored 12 points to pace Line Mountain (1-3), which was outscored 27-8 in the second half.

Southern Columbia 63, Montgomery 32

CATAWISSA — Kayla Lavella and Mackenzie Clark combined for 38 points to lead the Tigers in the HAC crossover.

Lavella led the way with 24 points, and Mallory Tomaschik added five points and steals for Southern (2-0).

Bloomsburg 49, Mifflinburg 37

BLOOMSBURG — Natalie Wittman scored 16 of her game-high 30 points in the second half as the Panthers pulled away for the HAC crossover win. Freshman Kayla Kline led the Wildcats with 12 points in the loss.


Milton 51, Williamsport 22

WILLIAMSPORT — The Black Panthers picked up four pins in the upperweights to rout the Millionaires in a Heartland-I matchup.

Taylor Porter (152), Ryan Preisch (160), Gage Heller (182) and Ryan Solomon (220) got the pins for Milton (1-0), and each fall was recorded in under a minute with Preisch’s occurring in just 23 seconds.
