College track and field: Ex-Tiger star Delsite joins Bucknell staff

LEWISBURG -- One of the Valley's all-time great high school track and field athletes is returning home.

Southern Columbia High School graduate Bryan Delsite has been named an assistant track and field coach at Bucknell University.

Delsite had been the head coach at Duquesne University for the last 15 years. The appointment was announced Monday by Bison men's and women's head track coach Kevin Donner.

Delsite, a former resident of Elysburg, won four PIAA Class AA championships, three in the triple jump and one in the high jump, breaking the then state record in the triple.

He was inducted into the Bernie Romanoski Anthracite Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.

"We are very excited to add a coach with Bryan's experience to our staff," said Donner. "He did an incredible job at Duquesne, which does not have an indoor or an outdoor facility. I have always been impressed with his coaching techniques and how well his athletes have responded to his personality. He is very familiar with our recruiting areas as well as the present student-athletes on our team."

Delsite was named head women's coach at Duquesne prior to the 1998-99 season. He helped start Duquesne's men's track and field program in 2001 and was named head men's coach in 2003, leading the Dukes to a fifth-place finish in the Atlantic 10 in his first year at the helm.

Delsite went on to earn four Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year awards, highlighted by his being named both Men's and Women's Coach of the Year at the 2005 A-10 Outdoor Championships. He has coached 83 all-conference performers and four A-10 Championships performers of the meet, and every Duquesne men's and women's track and field record has been set under his watch.
