College notebook: Older "Wash" can run, too

By The Daily Item

There has been a lot of ink spilled this scholastic football season about the emergence of Zach Wasilewski as a runner as the quarterback at Mount Carmel.

However, older brother Marcus is also proving he's got some wheels as well.

Wasilewski leads the No. 25-ranked (FCS) Maine Bears in rushing with 213 yards and two touchdowns.

Wasilewski is 83-of-128 for 976 yards and seven touchdowns for Maine, whose only loss came to No. 18 in FBS Northwestern, 35-21, this past weekend.

The senior was awarded the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award as the top player in New England for his play against Bryant on Sept. 14. Wasilewski led the way in Maine's 35-22 win, accounting for all five Black Bears touchdowns. He went 23-of-32 for 263 yards and a career-high matching four touchdowns, while rushing for 64 yards and another score.

Keiser's turn to shine

Selinsgrove graduate Ryan Keiser had his best game of the season on Saturday in the Nittany Lions' 34-0 win over Kent State.

Keiser had his first career sack in the second quarter and grabbed the first interception of his career.

He also finished with a career-high four tackles.

Getting started

Lewisburg high graduate Sienna Fisher has joined the Rochester Institute of Technology women's soccer team.

The freshman made her first two starts in goal this past week for the Tigers.

Fisher had seven saves in a 0-0 tie with GENESEO on Wednesday and had one save in a 1-1 tie with the University of Rochester on Saturday.

RIT is 4-1-2 on the season and opens Liberty League play on Sept. 28 against Clarkson.

Welcome back

Susquehanna punter T.J. Morton was an all-Conference selection as a freshman in 2011, but took a redshirt season in 2012.

Morton has picked up right where he left off in his redshirt sophomore season in 2013.

Morton has punted the ball 20 times this season for a 43.5 yards per punt average, putting him in the top 10 nationally in Division III.
