ALMEDIA -- It was a tale of two halves in the nightcap game of the District 4 Class A playoffs at Blue Jays Stadium at Central Columbia High School, as seventh-seed Benton advanced to the second round with a 2-1 overtime victory over Southern Columbia.

Southern, the No. 10 seed, had lost its two previous games to Benton. The Tigers (9-10) took a 1-0 lead off of a corner shot when Jacob Trathen deflected the corner kick from Seth Joseph to the far post in the 21st minute of the first half.

Benton (14-5) wasted little time to tie the game, scoring nearly 10 minutes later. Ben Pasukinis booted the ball in with his right foot just past the far post on a pass from Chase Brooker as the first half ended in a one-all tie.

The game remained tied through regulation as both teams has chances during the second half to win the game as they combined for 19 shots overall.

Southern had a chance to take a 2-1 lead when Tyler Keiser's shot just missed going under the crossbar off a corner kick.

In the overtime, Benton -- which was outplayed in the first half of regulation -- picked up the tempo and controlled the game from the second half on. Benton had a corner kick that glanced off Robert Rose before being knocked into the goal by a Southern player for the game-ending score.

"The kids worked hard all week and they played well," Southern head coach Dave Hall said. "We match up well against Benton and they guys play well against then. The turf was a little slick late in the game and coming from grass, I thought our kids did a great job with their ball control and they adapted to the conditions very well."

Benton advances to the District 4 Class A quarterfinals on Saturday at a time and place to be determined and faces Sayre, who beat No. 15-seeded Line Mountain on Tuesday.
