College notebook: Lewisburg grad joins LVC Sports Hall

Salsman posted two Conference shutouts this week as Susquehanna defeated Juniata and Goucher. In the first game of the week, he made three saves against the Eagles as Susquehanna slipped by with the 1-0 win. On Saturday, Salsman made four stops in a 3-0 win at Goucher.

The Bucknell University football team earned some individual recognition for its 48-10 victory over No. 15 Lehigh this past Saturday.

Junior safety Matthew Steinbeck was named Patriot League Player of the Week. Place kicker Derek Mauer was named Patriot League Special Player of the Week. Freshman tailback C.J. Williams was named the Bison Athlete of the Week.

Steinbeck was part of a Bucknell defense that limited Lehigh to its fewest points since the Mountain Hawks were shut out in the 2011 NCAA playoffs. He finished the game with eight tackles, two interceptions and one pass breakup.

A 2012 First Team All-Patriot League selection who led the conference in interceptions a year ago, Steinbeck is ranked fifth in the nation in interceptions per game this season.

Maurer was a perfect 8-for-8 on kicks on Saturday, converting two field goals and six extra points. He also took over kickoff duties in the second half and averaged 64.0 yards on two kicks. He is now 7-for-8 on field goals and 16-for-17 on extra points this year. Maurer, who is in his first year kicking field goals and extra points, ranks second on the team in points (37) and is listed 15th nationally in field goal percentage.

Williams was a big part of Bucknell's offense that registered a season-high 296 rushing yards. He rushed 28 times for a career-high 154 yards, his third 100-yard outing of the season. Williams' 582 yards this season are the most by a Bison freshman since Rich Lemon in 1993.

Against Lehigh, Williams also rushed for three touchdowns. He has now scored a team-high six times this year.
