As he enters his 24th season as the men’s basketball coach at Susquehanna Frank Marcinek is pretty sure he has an experienced team coming back.
The problem is he hasn’t seen his players on the floor.
Gone from last year’s 15-win team that was second in the Landmark Conference is explosive scorer Spenser Spencer, but four starters return.
At least that’s the rumor.
Harley Sellinger, a second-team All-Landmark pick last year as a sophomore, is in Spain for the first semester as he continues work toward his foreign language degree. He is expected back in December.
J.T. Wilson, another all-league player, had hand surgery last month and is working his way back as well.
Harvey Pannell, the league’s Rookie of the Year three years ago, is still recovering from an ACL injury. And then there is junior point guard Mike Perillo, who has also been slowed by injuries in the preseason.
So when the Crusaders open the season tonight against Penn College in the Pepsi Tip-Off Tournament, Marcinek isn’t really sure what to expect.
