High school roundup: Smith gives Ironmen a win over Green Dragons

DANVILLE -- Zach Smith added more thrills to Danville's already thrilling season by scoring the only goal of the game to give the Ironmen a 1-0 Heartland Athletic Conference Division I victory over Lewisburg on Thursday.

Smith hit a laser shot to the low corner of the net for Danville's lone goal. Gage Reber assisted on the play.

Chris Dempsey also got his eighth shutout of the season for Danville (9-1-1 overall) by stopping four shots.

Logan Cho made seven saves for Lewisburg (10-2-1, 7-2-1 HAC-I).

MIFFLINBURG -- The Wildcats edged the Millionaires in the closely-contested HAC-I matchup by getting a goal from Alex Kroft 10 minutes into the second half.

A Gordy DeFacis corner kick resulted in the goal for Mifflinburg (8-5, 5-5 HAC-I), which tied Williamsport in shots with nine apiece. The Millionaires had a 7-6 edge in corners.

TURBOTVILLE -- Elias George and Chris Schaeffer each recorded a goal and assist to help the Defenders shut out the Warriors.

Brett Powell also scored off an assist by James Hamm for Warrior Run (13-0, 9-0 HAC-II).

Mount Carmel 0

MOUNT CARMEL -- Theo Deptula scored twice in the first half before Matt Gass tallied two second-half goals in the Indians HAC-II victory.

Ryan Rompolski added a goal and two assists for Shamokin (8-4, 5-4 HAC-II), and Gass also had a pair of assists for the Indians.

Bloomsburg Christian 3

BLOOMSBURG -- A hat trick by Brandon Shaffer and two goals from Seth Kabonick helped the Eagles to the nonleague win. Adam Clemens added a goal and two assists for Sunbury Christian (9-3-2).

Walnut Street Christian 1

JERSEY SHORE -- Zach Newbury had a hat trick in the first half, while Dan Severn added a goal and four assists for the Warriors in the ACAA win. Northumberland improves to 18-1-1, 11-0 in league play.


n Selinsgrove 2,

East Juniata 1

SELINSGROVE -- Jenna Fisher had two assists as both Alicia Torruella and Nicole Krebs scored to give the Seals the nonleague win. East Juniata's Amber Knouse scored with 13:23 left in the second half to make it a 1-goal game.

"At the end we have a lot of tired legs, but the girls held through and got the result we're looking for," Selinsgrove coach Matt Metzger said.

The win puts the Seals at 12-2 on the season.

MILTON -- Katie Benfer and Madison Burrows each had two goals and an assist in the Tigers' ACAA win. Meadowbrook improves to 12-3, 9-0 in league play.

BLOOMSBURG -- Two goals and an assist from both Sierra Gross and Abby Daddario lifted the Eagles to the nonleague victory. Sunbury Christian is 5-6-1.

Walnut Street Christian 0

JERSEY SHORE -- Two goals apiece from Alyssa Wesner and Bethany Severn fueled a five-goal first half for the Warriors in the ACAA win.

Wesner finished with a hat trick, while Severn had three goals and three assists for Northumberland Christian (17-3, 8-1 ACAA).

Shikellamy 1 (OT)

LEWISBURG -- Maddie Scarr's two assists in the game resulted in the game's tying and winning goals for the Green Dragons over the Braves in HAC-I action.

Shikellamy opened the scoring, but freshman Claire Martin tied the game at 10:51 of the first half for Lewisburg (8-4-1, 5-3 HAC-I). Shannon Albright then tallied the winning goal in overtime.

SUNBURY -- The Warriors ushered the Braves into the offseason by winning each match in straight sets in the HAC-I matchup.

For Shikellamy (1-13), Tiara Bartol finished the season with a 9-5 record playing at No. 1 singles.
