Bison taking backseat to rival Mountain Hawks

LEWISBURG — When you look at what the Bucknell men’s basketball team has accomplished over the last two seasons, including consecutive 25-win seasons and back-to-back Patriot League regular-season titles, it’s a difficult sell to say the Bison are under the radar as they enter the 2012-13 season.

But, thanks to all the preseason publicity rival Lehigh has rightfully received, Bucknell just might be. All the ink is seemingly going to the Lehigh Valley, where the Mountain Hawks return preseason All-American C.J. McCollum and four starters from a team that beat Duke in the NCAA tournament.

The Bison open coach Dave Paulsen’s fifth season tonight at Purdue with a roster that returns a former league player of the year and NBA prospect in Mike Muscala, three other players who have earned All-Patriot honors in their career and a group of youngsters ready to fill in where needed. Three-time league defensive player of the year Bryan Cohen is the only significant piece gone from last year’s squad that fell to Lehigh in a classic title game and then won at Arizona in the opening round of the NIT.
