MILTON -- Just looking at the numbers, one would think Shikellamy coach Tim Foor and his Braves haven't been playing well into the district tournament.

Shikellamy had dropped its final three regular season games before Friday night's District 4 Class AAA quarterfinal with Mifflinburg.

"I feel were playing pretty solid. We lost to some really good teams -- a league game to Jersey Shore and to State College and Central Mountain," Foor said. "We felt we were moving forward in the right direction. We weren't coming into the playoffs with our tails between our legs."

The Braves proved that, building a double-digit lead in the second quarter and never looking back in downing the Wildcats, 64-40.

Shikellamy improves to 13-9 on the season and will face top-seeded Danville in next week's semifinals.

The Wildcats finish the season at 11-12.

"These kids earned this district game. They prepared really well all week," Mifflinburg coach Andre Roupp said. "Our goal this week was to enjoy the moment. There are lots of teams that are sitting home this week."

Mifflinburg got the Braves to play its style of game early on. The Wildcats were very patient offensively and were within 12-8 after one quarter.

But the Shikellamy defense allowed just one second-quarter field goal, while five different Braves' players scored as Shikellamy built a 22-11 lead at the break.

"I think in the first half (Mifflinburg) was very content in being patient on offense," Foor said. "We feel that we are solid defensively. We always preach if you play solid defense and make the right rotations good things will happen."

"We certainly wanted to limit the possessions in the game," Roupp said. "But we also wanted to attack the defense as well and we didn't do that as well. We weren't very aggressive on our cuts when we ran our offense, nor did we get many drive and kicks."
