MILTON -- After two losses to Selinsgrove during Heartland Athletic Conference Division I play, Shikellamy's senior backcourt of Alexis Angstadt and Cory Yerger were determined not to let their rivals end their careers in the District 4 Class AAA quarterfinals on Friday night at Milton High School.

Even with a 10-point lead at the half, the Braves' backcourt knew they weren't out of the woods quite yet.

"(Alexis and Cory) were talking coming out of the locker room that they wanted to make this a 15- or 16-point game in the second half," Shikellamy coach Lou Dellegrotti said.

"We weren't getting our shots early in the game," Angstadt said. "Coach told us that we were the seniors, we had to lead."

That's exactly what Angstadt and Yerger did, each scoring 17 points, to help the Braves to a 65-48 victory over the Seals.

"(Selinsgrove coach) Tim (Lauver) did a heck of job. It's the only team we didn't beat during the season," Dellegrotti said. "We have trouble with their size, but the kids hustled. I'm really proud of them."

Shikellamy improves to 16-7 on the season and faces No. 2-seed Danville next week in the semifinals at a time and place to be determined.

Selinsgrove finishes its season at 12-11.

"I think they outhustled us. We got them in foul trouble and didn't take advantage of it," Selinsgrove coach Tim Lauver said. "We were just outplayed tonight."

The Seals had success this season against the Braves by forcing someone other than Angstadt and Yerger to beat them. Once again, Selinsgrove's strategy was the same, but this time the Braves had the answer.

Shikellamy built an early 16-5 advantage in the first half thanks to the inside work of sophomore Kiera Smith and junior Raven Fatool. The two combined for 14 of Shikellamy's first 20 points, before both got into foul trouble.
