High school basketball: Valley athletes to play Sunday in all-star game

COAL TOWNSHIP -- The Northumberland County Recreation Commission on behalf of the board of county commissioners will present their 13th Annual Northumberland County Senior All -Star Basketball Games on Sunday at Lourdes Regional High School.

The games, featuring senior players from Northumberland County versus seniors from the surrounding counties, will be held at 6 p.m. for the girls and 7:30 for the boys.

The Northumberland County Recreation Commission uses this game to support its Scholar Athlete Fund and the Recreation Grant Fund. Each year the Commission gives a male and female from each Secondary School in Northumberland County a scholarship to be used at the school they will be attending to further their education.

The Commission also gives yearly grants out to local municipalities and-or non profit organizations for recreational use. Admission to the games is $5 for all ages.

Shikellamy coach Tim Foor will direct the Northumberland County boys team with Paul Petcavage, the coach at St. John Neumann, handling the Surrounding Counties team.

In girls action, Lourdes coach Mike Klembara, whose Red Raiders' just won a fifth consecutive District 4 Class A title, will coach the Northumberland County squad. Danville's Steve Moser will coach the Surrounding Counties team.

The other counties' players are from Union, Snyder, Montour, Lycoming and Schuykill and Columbia counties.
