Area roundup: Selinsgrove boys top Southern Columbia for HAC crossover win

SELINSGROVE — Juvon Batts only had four points in the game, but he hit a big 3-pointer with about a minute left to play to give Selinsgrove the lead and a 54-53 Heartland cross-over win over Southern Columbia on Monday.

Following the big bucket, Selinsgrove (6-12) needed to make a defensive stop to hold the lead and the Seals got one as Bryce Parry’s 3-pointer from the top of the key rimmed out as time expired.

Dillon Hoke led the Seals with 16 points, seven of which came in the fourth quarter. David Aurand added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Parry finished with 17 points to lead Southern (5-11).

Danville 54, Central Columbia 26

ALMEDIA — Led by Bret Berg’s game-high 20 points, three players scored in double figures for the Ironmen in the HAC crossover win over the Blue Jays.

McConnell added 12 points and Matt Kozick had 11 for Danville (15-2), who led 19-6 after the first quarter.

Warrior Run 51, Meadowbrook Chr. 48

MILTON — Zack Miller had 15 points and Jared Bender scored 11 more to lead the Defenders to the nonleague win.

Curtis Klodnick and Tyler Baughman led Meadowbrook (11-7) with 18 and 12 points, respectively.

Warrior Run improves to 2-15.

Sunbury Christian 45, Grace Prep 32

STATE COLLEGE — Blake Spangler-Jones scored 16 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and he also had four steals to lead the Eagles to the nonleague victory. Sunbury Christian improves to 8-13.


Selinsgrove 44, Greenwood 24

SELINSGROVE — Laura Long and Nikki Krebs scored 10 points apiece as the Seals took the nonleague victory. A total of eight players scored at least two points for Selinsgrove (9-8) in the game.

Halifax 41, East Juniata 35

HALIFAX — With two minutes remaining in the game, Madison Bingman hit a 3-pointer to give the Wildcats a lead and an eventual Tri-Valley League win over the Tigers.

Morgan Cox had eight points and 11 rebounds for Halifax (12-8, 11-3 TVL), while Tess Kieffer added 13 points for the Wildcats.

Juniata 57, Line Mountain 39

MANDATA — The Indians got a game-high 24 points from Victoria Varner and 18 from Maddie Zendt to take the TVL win.

Jess Zimmerman and Colleen Troutman scored 10 points apiece for Line Mountain (4-15 overall).

Tri-Valley 73, Lourdes Regional 39

COAL TOWNSHIP — The Bulldogs jumped out to a 28-8 first-quarter lead and they cruised to the Schuylkill League win.

Sarah Getchey scored 14 points and Rachel Scultz had 10 for Lourdes (15-5 overall).

Northumberland Christian 54, Columbia Co. Chr. 43

BLOOMSBURG — Terah Lee Hayner, Bethany Severn and Calista Ulmer all reached career highs in points as the Warriors took the Allegheny Christian Athletic Association win.

Hayner led the way with 14 points, while Severn and Ulmer added 12 points apiece for Northumberland (11-9, 4-6 ACAA). Alyssa Wesner added nine points and 15 rebounds for the Warriors.

Sunbury Christian 73, Grace Prep 9

STATE COLLEGE — Abby Daddario and Faith Gingrich both scored 20 points or more as the Eagles rolled to the nonleague win.

Daddario tallied 24 points in addition to getting six steals and five assists for Sunbury Christian (17-1). Gingrich had a career-high 20 points while Tori Erdman had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Eagles.
