H.S. roundup: Selinsgrove girls hold off Midd-West

SELINSGROVE — It’s been weeks since Selinsgrove last tasted victory on the hard court, but on Friday the Seals broke out of their slump to edge Midd-West, 34-31, in a Heartland-I matchup.

Jess Kerstetter and Kelsey VanBuskirk scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, to lead Selinsgrove (2-15 overall), which out-scored Midd-West (5-10) 19-0 through the middle two quarters.

Chloe Wagner scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs, which almost rallied back from a double-digit deficit by out-scoring the Seals 19-9 in the fourth quarter.

Danville 50, Jersey Shore 35

JERSEY SHORE — Sophomore forward Amber Renz recorded her 17th double-digit scoring game of the season as the Ironmen beat the Bulldogs for the HAC-I win.

Renz scored 22 points and Maddie Moro added eight points for Danville (17-1 overall).

Shikellamy 44, Shamokin 37

COAL TOWNSHIP — The Braves inched closer to qualifying for the District 4 playoffs after they edged the Indians for the HAC-I victory.

Kelsey Zimmerman scored 18 points to lead Shikellamy (9-6 overall), which has home games with Danville and Central Mountain next week, along with a road game at cross-river rival Selinsgrove.

Line Mountain 62, Newport 45

NEWPORT — Colleen Troutman’s 19 points and seven rebounds helped lift the Eagles to the Tri-Valley League victory.

Jessica Zimmerman added 14 points and five steals, plus Joelle Snyder had 10 points for Line Mountain (6-8, 6-4 TVL).

Loyalsock 54, Southern Columbia 47

WILLIAMSPORT — A better start to the game by the Lancers gave them a big early lead over the Tigers, and the HAC-II victory.

Mackenzie Clark tallied 16 points for Southern (12-4 overall), which trailed 20-9 after the first quarter and 36-21 at the half.

Sunbury Christian 49, Meadowbrook Chr. 36

MILTON — Torri Erdman posted a double-double and Becky Gingrich almost did the same as the Eagles took the Allegheny Christian Athletic Association victory.

Erdman had 24 points and 12 rebounds, plus Gingrich scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds for Sunbury Christian (9-3, 7-1 ACAA).

Emily Benfer scored 18 points to lead Meadowbrook (5-6, 2-4).
