Susquehanna University junior Cam Weaver, a Selinsgrove High graduate, set the Crusaders’ school record in the shot put on the first day of the Bison Open and Multi — at Bucknell — on Friday.
Weaver’s throw of 12.37 meters broke the record of Becky Ritchie (12.03) set in 1998. For her efforts, Weaver was named Field Athlete of the Week in the Landmark Conference.
Another Selinsgrove graduate, Chelsey Beaver, moved into second place on the Juniata College weight-throw record list with a throw of 11.72 meters.
Lebanon Valley College senior Cynthia Adams, a Southern Columbia graduate, won the 500 meters at the Bison Open on Saturday in a time of 1:18.26.
Lewisburg High graduate Elise Buffington had a successful return to her hometown, claiming the pole vault for Lafayette College with a height of 12-3 ½.
On the men’s side, Luk Olegenski, another Lewisburg graduate, won the 1000-meter run on Saturday for Franklin and Marshall in 2:35.19, while his brother Greg finished fifth in 2:37.43
Selinsgrove graduate Vince Fadale finished eighth in the 3,000 meters in 8:44.03.
Shikellamy graduate Jake Heim, a junior at Lock Haven University, finished fourth in the weight throw (16.82m) and 13th in the shot put. Southern Columbia graduate Tom Schetroma finished 14th in the shot put for Susquehanna University.
Line Mountain graduate Adam Kritzer is a sophomore 157-pound wrestler for York College. Kritzer is 14-7 on the season for the Spartans (13-8).
Britton Heim is a freshman 165-pounder for Wilkes University. The Colonels are 15-3 on the season.
Five local athletes compete on the Susquehanna University swimming and diving team — three on the male side and two on the female.
Senior Tyler Long, a Selinsgrove graduate, swam freestyle and individual medleys for the Crusaders.
Chris Dempsey and Mike Yoder are divers for Susquehanna. Dempsey is a freshman from Danville, while Yoder is a junior from Shikellamy. Dempsey had the fourth best score in the Landmark Conference with 214 points, while Yoder had the fifth best score this season with 166.75.
Danville High graduate Lexi Cole is a junior freestyler and backstroker for the Crusaders, while Selinsgrove graduate Michelle Delgado is a senior who swims the backstroke and the butterfly.
Cole had top 10 times in the Landmark Conference in the 50 and 200 backstrokes, while Delgado has a top 10 time in the 100 backstroke.
The Susquehanna swimming teams are off until this week’s Landmark Conference meet, which will be hosted by Marywood College.
