Women's basketball: Romine's 12 not enough for Bison

EASTON — Despite three players hitting double figures, the Bison couldn’t defeat Lafayette on the road, falling in the Patriot League contest, 87-64, to drop to 12-9 on the year and 7-4 in the conference.

Shelby Romine led the Bison with 12 points while Megan McGurk added 11 and Audrey Dotson scored 10.

Lafayette (12-10, 6-5 PL) provded to be too solid however, as five players reached double digits in the scoring column and Emily Homan posted a double-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds.

Both Kelly Loughney and Madeline Fahan led Lafayette with 16 points as Jamie O’Hare scored 12 and Linnel Macklin had 11.

The Bison trailed by just four points at the half, but the difference through the game proved to be second chance opportunities. Lafayette scored 21 points off second chance opportunities, while the Bison had just nine.

In the second half, a layup by Romine with 15:06 to play cut Lafayette’s lead down to just six at 49-43, but that would be the closest Bucknell made it on the night.

A 5-0 spurt in 30 seconds by Loughney propeled Lafayette to an 11-point lead. Tyler Craig would score off a layup to cut it to nine, but Lafayette built back up a double-digit lead.
