High School Basketball: TVL names all-star squads

COCOLAMUS — East Juniata’s boys team was a model of perfection in 2013-14, and the Tigers were honored for their efforts when the Tri-Valley League All-Star Team was released.

East Juniata (16-0 TVL) claimed the league championship, and the Tigers had seniors Bailey Coder and Nick Lorenz named to the first team.

Lorenz, a guard/forward, led the TVL in scoring with 383 points (23.94 ppg.) and assists with 65. Coder, a forward/center, ranked second in the league with 343 points (21.44 ppg.), but was first with 244 rebounds and 91 blocked shots.

Lorenz and Coder shared the TVL’s Most Valuable Player honors this season.

Rounding out the first team were Greenwood seniors Tyler Fegley and Adam Harrison, plus Upper Dauphin’s Mac Ney.

Ney, a senior guard, was third in scoring (246, 15.38 ppg.) and seventh in steals (29).

Brock Anders, who just completed his sixth season as East Juniata’s coach, was named the TVL’s Coach of the Year after he led the Tigers to a historic season. East Juniata set program records for wins in a season.



GIRLS

The Tri-Valley League girls first team was also dominated by Juniata County squads, with Juniata High School placing two girls on the team along with one from East Juniata.

Senior Carly Burns and junior Victoria Varner were named to the first team for the Indians, with Burns being named the Most Valuable Player after she ranked sixth in the league in scoring (205 points, 12.81 ppg.), third in assists (55) and eighth in steals (40). Varner led the league in scoring (281, 17.56 ppg.) and was fifth in assists (48).

Senior Maddie Trego was named to the first team for East Juniata. She was 10th in scoring (161, 10.06 ppg.), fifth in blocked shots (24) and sixth in rebounding (119).

Rounding out the first team were Upper Dauphin senior Taylor Brown and Halifax senior Kylee Sorichetti.

Also for Juniata, Meghan Geedey was named the TVL’s Coach of the Year. Geedey led the Indians to a perfect league record at 16-0 (19-2 overall).
