By The Daily Item

East Juniata and Greenwood made the most noise in the Tri-Valley League this season, and the two squads were justly honored when the league's head coaches selected their 2012-13 All-Star Team.

Greenwood, which claimed its fifth straight TVL title, had a pair of seniors named to the first team: guards Josh Ferguson and Ryan Kerstetter.

Ferguson led the TVL in assists (79), was second in steals (52) and 10th in scoring (12.94 ppg.). Kerstetter led the league in 3-point accuracy (40-of-98, 40.82 percent), plus he was second in free throw percentage (83.33 percent), fifth in blocks (11), sixth in steals (37) and seven in scoring (13.25 ppg.).

East Juniata, which handed Greenwood its only league loss this year and snapped the Wildcats' league unbeaten streak that dated back to 2011, also had a pair of players named to the first team in junior forward Bailey Coder and junior guard Nick Lorenz, the latter also being named the league's Most Valuable Player.

Lorenz led the league in scoring (21.87 ppg.), and was second in assists (68), second in 3-pointers made (35), fifth in 3-point percentage (37.63%) and eighth in steals (35). Coder led the league in rebounding (192), blocked shots (57) and he was 11th in scoring (12.44 ppg.).

Rounding out the TVL's first team was Upper Dauphin senior Ian Buffington, the league's sixth-best scorer (13.81 ppg.) who was also third in steals (42).

The TVL Coach of the Year honors went to Greenwood's Kent Houser, who led the Wildcats to a 15-1 league record (19-3 overall) and their aforementioned fifth consecutive conference championship.

Juniata sophomore Victoria Varner took home Most Valuable Player honors after she led the TVL in scoring, tallying nearly 16 points a game for the Indians.

Varner also led the league in 3-point shooting, making 37 treys. She was also second in free throw percentage and fifth in assists (40).
