SELINSGROVE -- Brock Zearfoss, of Jonestown, is at home recovering from a broken leg he sustained during last Saturday night's 358 sprint car feature at Selinsgrove Speedway.
"I was behind the 29 car (Derek Steward) and I lost the air off the wing and got over the cushion, but I was able to gather it back in," Zearfoss said. "But I was too close to the wall and caught the guardrail and started to flip. The rear torsion bars broke and it was a freak deal as the rear end slid out of place and the torque tube was flopping around and may left leg was in the way."
On Thursday, Zearfoss, in his first full season of 358 sprint cars, was able to lift his broken leg without any help since Monday.
He suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and fibia that caused the bone to break the skin on both sides. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks.
Fans can help with the Brock Zearfoss Recovery Fund by purchasing stickers at Williams Grove and Lincoln (Brett Marks' pit), Selinsgrove (Phil Walter's pit), Linda's Speedway (Sherry Kenderdine, track photographer) and Greenwood Valley Action Track (see Sherry & Nunzi) this weekend. The stickers are $5.
