H.S. roundup: Brouse, Miller power softball to win

SOFTBALL

SELINSGROVE -- Mackenna Miller and Linea Brouse both hit home runs to lead Milton to a 9-2 Heartland-I victory over Selinsgrove on Tuesday.

Milton (5-0 overall and HAC-I) led just 2-1 before Brouse hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Miller followed with a two-run shot in the sixth to blow the game open for the Black Panthers.

Rachel Goodling and Brynn Musser both went 2-for-4 for Selinsgrove (3-2, 3-2).

Midd-West 0

DANVILLE -- Tara Fritz tossed a complete-game four-hittter as the Ironmen took the HAC-I win.

Zina Knight and Kylie Romeo both went 3-for-4 to lead Danville (3-3 overall and HAC-I) at the plate. Fritz struck out six and walked three for the Ironmen.

Midd-West falls to 0-4, 0-4.

n Mifflinburg 20,

Shamokin 4 (5 inn.)

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Sara Stauffer hit two home runs and she had a total of four RBIs as the Wildcats cruised to the HAC-I win.

Kayla Kline added a 3-for-5 day for Mifflinburg (5-0 overall and HAC), and it included a double, triple and two RBIs.

n South Williamsport 28,

Lewisburg 0 (3 innings)

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT -- The Mounties' 28 runs in the HAC-II victory came off 15 hits and nine errors by the Green Dragons.

BASEBALL

n Jersey Shore 7,

Milton 3

JERSEY SHORE -- The Bulldogs broke a 2-all tie in a big way by scoring five runs in the sixth inning to take the HAC-I win.

Damian Moyer and Neal Hoover both had a pair of hits for Milton (3-2 overall and HAC-I).

Jersey Shore improves to 4-1, 4-1.

n Selinsgrove 104,

Shamokin 46

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Juvon Batts and Mike Ede were both triple-event winners for the Seals as they ran past the Indians for the HAC-I victory.

Batts won the 100- and 200-meter dashes as well as running a leg on the victorious 400 relay team. Ede captured both hurdles races as well as running on the winning 1,600 relay team for Selinsgrove.

n Mount Carmel 102,

Danville 48

MOUNT CARMEL -- Tyler Vella won a pair of individual events and the Ironmen could've used a lot more as they fell to the Red Toranadoes in the HAC-II meet. Vella won the 800 (2:05.51) and the 1,600 (4:38.07).

n Warrior Run 75,

South Williamsport 75

TURBOTVILLE -- A trio of double-event winners -- Noah Byerly, Noah Rosencrans, Jason McWilliams -- helped the Defenders tie the Mounties in the HAC crossover action.

Byerly won both hurdles races, Rosencrans took both the shot put and discus, plus McWilliams won long jump and high jump for Warrior Run (2-0-1).

GIRLS TRACK

n Warrior Run 84,

TURBOTVILLE -- Olivia George won both hurdles races while Steph Shamburg and Kenzie Mathna swept both the throwing events and jumping events, respectively, in the Defenders' HAC-II win. Warrior Run improves to 3-0.

n Danville 100,

Mount Carmel 50

MOUNT CARMEL -- Led in part by Shelby Freedman's three wins, the Ironmen took the HAC-II win. Freedman won the javelin (105-11), the long jump (15-1 1/2) and the triple jump (34-4) for Danville.

BOYS LACROSSE

n Selinsgrove 15,

Danville 11

DANVILLE -- Keyed by Ben Youngman's go-ahead goal off an assist by Marcus Winn, the Seals went on an 8-1 run in the fourth quarter to take the Central Susquehanna Lacrosse League game.

Andrew Sickle led Selinsgrove (3-0) with four goals and two assists, while Youngman finished with a hat trick and Winn had two goals and two assists for the Seals.

Nick Treon led Danville (1-3) with a six-goal day.
