H.S. track and field: Shikellamy girls score first win over Lewisburg

Braves top Lewisburg for 1st time

(Continued)

With his lineup set, Evans called the team around him before the race.

"He didn't tell us the score (before the race), but he gathered us around and said it was coming down (to the relay)," Pfleegor said. "He told us that we didn't want to get back on that bus and say we had a chance but didn't get it done."

Then Pfleegor, a junior, gathered her relay teammates -- Cheyenne Tumolo, Lexi Colescott and Cedeno -- to say a few words.

"I told them, 'We don't want to feel the pressure; we just want to do our best," Pfleegor said. "It turned out awesome and I'm still in shock from it."

The Braves' 1600 relay won in 4:14.36, including a 1:03 split from Cedeno in the third leg after she had won two individual events in the previous 45 minutes.

"This was only the second time I've run the relay," Cedeno said. "I was just trying to go out and run my race."

Cedeno won the 1600 (5:32.75), 3200 (11:50.9) and 800 (2:31.62). Pfleegor' s individual wins came in the 100 (13.68), 200 (28.14) and the 400 (1:00.32).

The Braves dominated on the track, winning every individual event as Maddie Calderon won the 100 hurdles and Bernadette Chaney claimed the 300 intermediate hurdles.

Despite losing just the second meet in the last 21 years, Green Dragons coach Jon Clark wasn't the least bit disappointed in his team (4-1, 2-1).

"We had the best day of our year. Every time I turned around we had personal bests on the track, in the field and in the throws," Clark said.

BOYS

n Lewisburg 88, Shikellamy 62

With Shikellamy sprinter Ryan Wary and Lewisburg distance runner Sean Walker cancelling each other out on the track, the Green Dragons won all but one field event to claim the HAC-I boys track meet.

Wary won four individual events for the Braves (1-2 overall and HAC-I). He won the 100 (11.73 seconds) and 200 (23.57), while out-dueling fellow hurdles standout Brandon Smith in the 100 high hurdles (16.29) and the 300 intermediates (42.29).

Walker won three individual events for the Green Dragons (5-0, 3-0), the 800 (2:07.24), 1600 (4:59.63) and 3200 (10:44.4).

Will Sumfest pulled off an odd double win in the field, claiming the shot put (43-8) and the pole vault (13-0). The other field winners for Lewisburg were Smith (javelin, 183-2), Ben Frankel (long jump, 19-3), Udoka Ede (triple jump, 40-10) and Nik Janesch (high jump, 5-6).

Harry Herbster's 129-3 discus throw was the Braves' lone field win.
