YORK -- For the Valley's four golfers in the PIAA Individual Championships, the links at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center were less than hospitable.
The best result out the two-day tournament came from Danville senior Austin Renz, who finished the Class AA competition in 12th place Tuesday, just one stroke away from medaling.
Only the top 10 boys and top five girls receive medals.
Renz sat in sixth place after he fired an 76 in Monday's first round. He shot a 81 on day two despite carding three bogeys, and he finished with a total score of 157.
Fairfield's Isaiah Logue won the AA title with a 139 (69-70).
In Class AAA boys, Shikellamy senior C.J. Tyler ended his first trip to states with a two-day total of 164 (84-80) to finish in a tie for 29th place.
Upper St. Clair's Grant Engel won the AAA title with a 147 (73-74).
In girls action, Milton senior Katie Behrent and Shikellamy senior Raven Fatool both completed their first trips to states with less than stellar results.
In Class AA, Behrent finished 14th with a 181 (86-95); and in Class AAA, Fatool was 17th by also carding a 181 (87-94).

WILLIAMSPORT -- The Red Tornadoes barely lost to the Spartans, as Michelle Mostowy put the game away in double overtime with 92:29 to play.
Mount Carmel senior Ali Varano tied the game with goals in the first and second halves to make it a 1-1 and 2-2 game.
Despite losing, Varano did end her career with a milestone as she recorded her 100th career goal.
