High School Roundup: Selinsgrove beats Bloomsburg in boys tennis

SELINSGROVE — The top two teams from the Heartland-I a season ago — Selinsgrove and Bloomsburg — met on Thursday and played a match that lasted more than three hours.

Selinsgrove got all it could handle from Bloomsburg, but the Seals got wins from both of their doubles teams to take a 4-1 victory.

Hareem Zain and Sam Bailey won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles before Aidan Finnerty and Garrett Benner, despite losing the first set 6-2, bounced back with 7-5 wins in the next two sets to win at No. 2.

Rob Smith and Brady Fries picked up identical 6-1, 6-2 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for Selinsgrove (2-0).

“It was a great match,” said Selinsgrove coach Duke Fravel.

Bloomsburg falls to 1-1.

Lewisburg 5,

Montoursville 0

LEWISBURG — The new-look Green Dragons continue to play well to open the season as they shut out the Warriors for the HAC victory.

Lewisburg (2-0) won every match in straight sets, dropping just eight games in the process.

Getting 6-love victories for the Green Dragons were Glen Gallick at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Jack Schroeder and Ben Higgin.

Jersey Shore 4,

Danville 1

JERSEY SHORE — The Ironmen found the Bulldogs — along with the cold and blustery conditions — difficult as they fell on the road in the HAC-I match.

Picking up the win for Danville (0-2) was Aiden Kennedy at No. 3 singles. He beat Kyle Haltenhoff, 6-3, 6-4.

Mifflinburg 4, Milton 1

MIFFLINBURG — The Wildcats earned their first victory of the year behind straight-set wins from Jakob Schmutzler and Sam Beiler and Nos. 2 and 3 singles.

Mifflinburg (1-1) closed the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, plus a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2.

Alandean Elsayed won at No. 1 singles for Milton (0-2), 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 over Matt Southerton.

SUNBURY — The Millionaires doubled their pleasure against the Braves as they won both matches of the doubleheader by identical scores.

On the day for Shikellamy (0-3), DJ Clark needed to go into tiebreaks to win both of his matches at No. 2 singles; at No. 2 doubles, the team of Wes Bickel and Scott Shupe also won twice for the Braves.

Williamsport improves to 3-0.
