WYALUSING -- Minersville scored twice in the top of the fifth inning en route to a 4-2 victory over Danville in the Little League 9-10 softball Section III tournament Wednesday night. The loss in the consolation bracket final ended Danville's playoff run with a third-place finish.
With the game tied at 2-2, Minersville opened the fifth with consecutive hits from Nikki Conville, Alexis Kroznoskie and Ashley Roberts. Roberts' hit drove in Conville. Paige Truscott followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Kroznoskie. Truscott shut down Danville over the final two innings to pick up the win.
Danville took the early lead on Laura Cashner's RBI single in the second inning that plated Baylee Hockenberg.
Minersville knotted the score in the third on Roberts' RBI double that scored Kroznoskie, who had singled.
In the bottom of the third, Danville regained the lead. Morgan Wagner singled and scored on a stolen base and a pair of passed balls.
Kaylee King tied the score for Minersville in the fourth with an RBI triple that scored Kali Woodford, who reached on an error.
Lindsay Cashner pitched five innings for Danville, giving up eight hits and a walk while fanning six batters. Truscott finished the game for Minersville with nine strikeouts. She gave up seven hits and walked four batters.
Lindsay Cashner, Hockenberg, Kira Snyder and Britney Toborg singled for Danville.
