Danville Seniors top Montoursville

By The Daily Item

TUNKHANNOCK -- After a pair of comfortable wins in the District 13 Senior Division Tournament, Danville picked up right where it left off in Wednesday's opening game of the Section 3 Tournament.

Danville scored three runs in the first inning and five more in the second to take an 8-3 victory over Montoursville at the Baumgartner Sports Complex's Bob Shultz Field.

The fifth was keyed by a Matt Schiffino double and a single by Colton Riley, though most of Danville's lineup got in on the action in the inning.

"It was pretty much a team effort. There was nothing huge (in the fifth)," said Danville manager Jim Pursel. "It was just a good inning with a lot of hits."

Riley, Schiffino, Tyler Fisher and David Crone had two hits apiece for Danville.

Danville next plays District 15 champ Tunkhannock today at 5:30 p.m., with the winner playing in the final on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the loser playing Montoursville on Friday at 5:30.

The Section 3 winner advances to the state tournament held in Emporiom at the Cameron County Little League Complex beginning Tuesday.
