SALEM, Va. —
Taylor Parker was a standout at Warrior Run and continued her success, leading the Huskies to a win against the University of Charleston (W. Va.) Saturday.
Parker blasted a home run in the seventh inning to break an 8-all tie and the Huskies (2-2) added another solo homer to take the win. With the home run, Parker helped her own cause as the Huskies’ freshman pitched 2.2 innings of relief to grab the win. After she hit her home run, Parker returned the circle for the bottom of the seventh and pitched a scoreless frame for the win.
The Huskies had to rally for the victory, scoring all 10 of their runs within the final three innings, including a six-run sixth innning to tie the game at eight. In the inning, Sarah Bertoni sent everyone on base home with a grand slam after three singles in the inning. The Huskies were finished in the inning as Mandi Baer hit a two-run homer with one out to tie the game at eight.
Parker came on in relief in the Huskies’ second game as Bloomsburg dropped a tight game to West Virginia Wesleyan, 7-5.
Parker pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief after the Bobcats took the lead with a four-run bottom of the fourth. Parker knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
The Huskies tried to rally against the Bobcats, with Chrissy Belko hitting a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to cut their deficit to two but the Huskies did not come closer after having two runners on with two outs in the seventh.
