Women's basketball: Huskies top No. 9 Glenville State in NCAA semifinals

GLENVILLE, W. Va. — Bloomsburg women’s basketball might be the kryptonite for nationally-ranked teams.

The Huskies defeated ninth-ranked Glenville State, 91-78, in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.

In taking out the host Pioneers (29-4), the Huskies (26-4) defeated their second nationally-ranked opponent in as many nights after beating Virginia State Friday.

Bloomsburg’s offense was clicking against the Pioneers, with the Huskies shooting 55.6 percent from the floor in the win. The Huskies may have needed those 91 points as Glenville State refused to go down in the second half with a fight. Bloomsburg led by 21 at halftime but Glenville State rallied to pull within seven, 70-63, with 7:11 to play.

However, the Huskies scored the next five points to push their lead back into double digits and the Pioneers sniffed single digits once for the rest of the game, trailing by nine with 53 seconds to play.

Catherine Noack led the Huskies with 27 points, draining seven of her 11 3-point attempts and knocking down each of her six free throw attempts. Jocelyn Ford did a bit of everything for Bloomsburg in the win, with 19 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

The Huskies scored 12 straight points early to a pull in front, 14-3, with Noack bookending the run with a pair of 3-pointers. Glenville State fought back to pull with four but the Huskies answered with another 12-0 run midway through the first half to take a 28-12 lead.

Brianna Dudeck narrowly missed a double-double for the Huskies, with nine points and eight rebounds.
