Boys basketball: Greenwood drops into consolation game

HARRISBURG — One year ago, Greenwood played a memorable game versus Lebanon Catholic in the championship game of the District 3 Class A playoffs.

Those two teams will meet again this year, but under completely different circumstances.

Greenwood will have its work cut out for itself in order to make a return trip to the state tournament after the Wildcats suffered a 56-52 overtime loss to Mount Calvary in Monday’s semifinal.

With the loss, No. 3-seeded Greenwood (18-6) will play No. 1-seeded Lebanon Catholic in the consolation game Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

The championship game will have Mount Calvary playing No. 4-seeded New Hope Academy on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey.

The top three finishers in District 3 Class A advance to the state tournament.

In last year’s meeting, the Wildcats were edged by the Beavers, 52-51.

Adam Harrison paced Greenwood with 21 points and Joe Sheaffer added nine points in the loss.

No. 2-seeded Mount Calvary (22-3) was led by 22 points from Josh Jeter and 15 from Jason Kuntzelman.

The Chargers outscored the Wildcats 21-11 in the fourth to force overtime.
