Motorsports: Rookie Mattern gets first career late model win

(Continued)

"I didn't want to see those cautions, that last one helped us as I think Kenny (Trevitz) would have gotten us," Mattern said.

Trevitz got under Mattern in Turn 1 on the lap-24 restart, but Mattern kept the momentum coming off Turn 2 to hold on for his first career late model win.

Rine slipped under Trevitz coming off Turn 4 to take second with Bryan Bernheisel and Jim Bernheisel rounding out the top five.

Sixth through 10th were Steve Campbell, Coleby Frye, Chad Hollenbeck, Matt Cochran and D. Yoder.

A multi-car accident occurred after the checkered flag had flown in Turn 1; all drivers were OK.

Heats for the 25 late models were won by Mattern, Lupfer and Zona.

Duane Mausteller, of Bloomsburg, led the first 20 laps before exiting the track with a blown engine.

Pat Cannon, of Etters, who leads the division with five wins, slowed on the backstretch on lap three of the feature while running fifth.

Jason Shultz, of Carlisle, the points leader, moved into fifth on lap five and then moved into third a few laps latter where he began a wheel-to-wheel battle with Brock Zearfoss.

Mausteller had extended his lead to nearly a straightaway when he slowed on lap 20 entering Turn 3

Beard inherited the lead from Mausteller with Zearfoss running second when the red flag came out on lap 20 for a two-car flip in Turn 3 for Scott Wilson and Phil Walter. Both drivers were OK.

Heats for the 19 sprint cars were won by Walter and Cannon.

There were 19 pro stocks signed in with heat wins going to Kyle Bachman and Brad Mitch. Two heat races for the 12 roadrunners were won by Brian Johnson and John Schoch.
