High school roundup: Seals hold off Braves

SUNBURY -- Shikellamy's Jacob Stuck had a win in his grasp during the Braves' Heartland-I match against Selinsgrove, but Mother Nature had other plans.

Stuck held a 7-5, 6-7 (13-11), 5-3 lead over Theron Fravel at No. 2 singles before the match was halted. It only added salt to the wound for Shikellamy, which fell to Selinsgrove, 3-1.

Selinsgrove (11-2) got wins in the other two singles matches from Rob Smith and Safwan Khan. The Seals also won at No. 1 doubles as Tyler Beaver and Sam Bailey clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Anthony Best and D.J. Clark.

The win for Shikellamy (1-11) came from its No. 2 doubles team of Tyler Hepler and Justin Eroh, who won in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

Milton 1

BLOOMSBURG -- The HAC-I matchup was as tough as expected for the Black Panthers, who fell after losing four, three-set matches.

The win for Milton (8-7, 7-5 HAC) came from Alandean Elsayed at No. 3 singles. He won 7-5, 6-1.

Central Columbia 0

LEWISBURG -- With the postseason just a couple of weeks away, the Green Dragons are gaining steam as they rolled the Blue Jays for the HAC-II win.

Each match was won in straight sets for Lewisburg (13-1, 11-1 HAC), which got a 6-1, 6-1 win from Ben Koch at No. 1 singles.

Greenwood 1

MANDATA -- Kyle Mace and J.P. Lenker both hit two-run singles to lead the Eagles to the Tri-Valley League win.

Thanks to Mace and Lenker, Line Mountain (5-5, 4-4 TVL) tallied three runs in each of the first and third innings.

Cory Warford got the complete-game win for the Eagles. He allowed one hit and struck out six batters.

n Upper Dauphin 15,

Juniata 0 (4 inn.)

ELIZABETHVILLE -- Kane Bouchard keyed the Trojans' run output in the TVL win by going 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs. Upper Dauphin improves to 8-4, 6-2 in league play.

n Halifax 4, Newport 2

HALIFAX -- A two-run single by Dan Osenbach plus an RBI single from Caleb Reitz gave the Wildcats a comeback win in TVL action. Halifax improves to 8-2, 7-1 in the league.

n Southern Columbia 5,

South Williamsport 3 (Susp.)

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT -- A four-run fifth inning gave the Tigers the lead before the game was suspended by rain with one out in the top of the fifth and a runner on third. The game will be resumed at a later date.


n Line Mountain 4,

Greenwood 3 (6 inn.)

MILLERSTOWN -- The Eagles held on for the TVL win even though the game got halted due to rain with an inning remaining.

Shania Kerstetter and Kiana Lukoskie both had a pair of hits for Line Mountain.

Katie Osborne and Amy Heggenstaller went a combined 5-for-6 for Greenwood (3-4 overall and TVL).

n Lourdes Regional 6,

Nativity 5

MOUNT CARMEL -- Emily Long's two-run, two-out triple to right-center plated the game's go-ahead runs in the sixth inning to give the Red Raiders the Schuylkill League win.

Long finished 2-for-4, as did Gabby Long. Angelique Pennypacker and Peyton Klembara preceded Emily Long's triple with a single and double, respectively.

n Selinsgrove 5,

Midd-West 0 (Susp.)

MIDDLEBURG -- The HAC-I matchup between the Seals and the host Mustangs was suspended with the East Snyder County team up in the bottom of the fifth inning. The game will be completed at a later date.
