TRACK & FIELD
PHILADELPHIA -- Danville senior Shelby Freedman is beginning to have her best throws of the season when they matter the most, and she sure proved that by putting on a show at the 120th running of the Penn Relays.
Freedman threw a personal-best 143 feet, 4 inches to win the high school girls javelin competition at the meet which annually attracts thousands of the best athletes from around the country and abroad.
Freedman, who took the silver medal at last year's PIAA Class AAA championships, took her Penn Relays title by edging Park City Utah's Chrissy Glassman, who threw a 139-6.
Freedman, however, wasn't the only Valley thrower to taste success on day two.
Milton senior Josh Brown placed 10th in the high school boys javelin with a throw of 188-9, which is nearly 12 feet under his personal- and season-best heave of 200-2 he set a couple of weeks ago at the Susquehanna H.S. Classic.
Denzel Pratt from St. Augustine's College H.S. in the Bahamas, won the Penn Relays title with a throw of 220-7 1/4.
Brown placed 11th in the PIAA Class AA meet a year ago with a 172-10 effort.
n Milton 10,
SELINSGROVE -- The Seals started the game strong, but they couldn't match the seven runs the Black Panthers scored in the final three innings of their Heartland-I win.
Selinsgrove (5-7, 3-5 HAC-I) led 5-2 after two, but Milton (4-4, 4-3) went on a tear and tallied four runs in the fifth inning and three more in the seventh.
Corey Kriner was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Black Panthers.
Colton Brouse hit a three-run home run for the Seals in the first inning.
n Jersey Shore 7,
MIFFLINBURG -- Jersey Shore scored three times in the seventh inning to hand Mifflinburg it's fourth one-run loss of the season and second in as many days.
